Gifted, fervent, authentic, genuine, talented, and most of all anointed!” These are words that are likely to be articulated after encountering Markise Hicks and his Raleigh NC based aggregation, The Mo Band. Coming hard with a modern day appeal, this heavy musical assembly represents the new breed of inspirational artists with a urban christian contemporary flavor. Through their heartfelt lyrics, musical fusion, passion, and excitement displayed on stage they pick up a torch passed by Kirk Franklin, Tye Tribbett and many other prominent voices in Christian/Gospel music.
Markise, a teacher, song writer, composer and worship leader, and Hampton Va native, was nurtured in a home where it was a demand to live holy and pursue music which explains why he was directing choirs in the aisles of the church at the age of three, and by six, accepted Christ. His future became inevitable at seven when he sat down with his older siblings and taught them the soprano and tenor parts of his favorite song and surprised his mother upon her coming home from work one day. Their mother shared his gift with co-workers and friends and that is where Markise sparked his early start in the music ministry, traveling with his siblings throughout the coasts of VA, NC, and MD for the next 10 years along with serving his church.
In 2003, Markise followed God and moved to attend Shaw University of Raleigh, NC. This is the origin of the ministry that we know today. In The summer of 2004, God entrenched into Markise’s heart, His will for ministry and gave birth to, “Bringing Divine Unity Ministries”. He called his close friends to take part of the vision and within a year’s time, the ministry became high on demand in Raleigh-Durham.
September 1, 2007, after much consideration, Markise decided to change the ministry. He wanted Christ to be the main focus and display the fullness of Christ and His excellent ministry that was presented in the Bible through the order of Melchizedek. The ministry of the Melchizedek Order Band is now proving itself to be an excellent ministry and shared stages with Kirk Franklin, Deon Kipping, Tye Tribbett, Smokie Norful, Lil’ Mo, etc., They have become a beacon of light to those that witness this gift in the body of Christ and to the world. Hitting the scene with their debut single “Im Gonna Make it”, which Markise calls “A spirited Jingle” that fell in his mind as he literally faced being Homeless and out on the street. This new aged gospel/pop cut illustrates Markise’s testimony of faith in a four minute track that will Grab the hearts of many.
