Some of our joy105.com team is in Australia which seems to be a hot spot lately for American Preachers and Gospel Artist. There is still a buzz from Bishop Jakes appearance last week! He had a standing room only crowd with tents pitched outside!
This week a promoter brought in one of our favorites Mary Mary. The doors opened at 7:30pm, the opening act was up at 8:00pm and Mary Mary was due on stage at 9pm, concert over at 10pm. Well, the ladies didn’t arrive in the venue until approximately 9:40pm. The people had become antsy, but the promoter continued coming on stage trying to update and putting up an opening act who kept singing the same songs because he didn’t have any more prepared.
The excuse the promoter gave was Erica of Mary Mary has had some medical issues with her throat and that was the delay. Well, once the ladies hit the stage it was obvious getting to the venue had been a challenge. Erica begins to take the lead, yet it was obvious there was still a struggle for Tina. Erica kicked off one of their hit songs, “I just can’t give up now” the crowd was ready, but Tina just couldn’t connect.
Tina eventually took to the mic and with no hesitation shared it wasn’t Erica’s fault they were late…it was her fault! She bared her heart to the audience and just shared she doesn’t want to be fake and phony standing before them singing what she doesn’t feel. She broke down crying while sharing there are just times she wants to give up and that day was one of them! Tina shared she has been angry with God and eventually left the stage.
Erica continued on singing her latest hit, “I need just a little more Jesus” and Tina eventually reappeared. Erica gave her a warm welcome back and it was obvious… that was just the release Tina needed! They tore the house down after that between preaching, sharing and singing!
By the end of the concert the people were chanting, “one more song” and the ladies came back for one more!
These ladies have tried to keep it 100 with their audience! I often remind people that it is easier said than done to live your life in the public eye! Tina has been very open about the infidelity in her marriage, the recent loss of their father and a new baby… that alone is a lot to handle with TV camera’s following you around (WETV was present)!
All is to say, remember Mary Mary and their families in your prayers! People can say whatever they want, but the question is do we need more HONEST preacher/artist like this?
We see it daily via Christian media how seemingly the honest preacher/artist is ridiculed and the fake and phony ones get the praise!
We just saying… your thoughts?
